About Our Diagnostic Assessments Program

Diagnostic assessments are crucial to the success of Nā Wai Ola Public Charter School for several reasons.  One reason is that these assessments monitor student progress to assist teachers in making the necessary adjustments to their lesson plans and student learning in the classroom, with the goal of better supporting students by addressing their needs.

Our Results

2021–2022
2022–2023

The charts above reflect the percentage of our students who are proficient in reading and math. These assessments are done three times a year and are recognized as: Beginning of the Year (BOY), Middle of the Year (MOY), and End of the Year (EOY). The schedule for these diagnostic assessments can be found on our school calendar. These are ideally completed within two weeks to ensure accurate data is collected to provide sufficient time to plan and implement RTI or MTSS, submit progress reports to our school leadership entities, and most importantly, to better serve the academic needs of our students.

Hawaiʻi State Assessments

Students in Upper Elementary, grades 3–6, participate in mandatory state assessments each year, during the last quarter of school.  The results of these assessments are included in our Title I reporting.  Having students participate in our local assessments three times a year has proved to greatly prepare our students for the SBAC, NGSS, NAEP, and WIDA Access for ELLs assessments.  You can also find the schedule for all of the assessments our haumana participate in within our school calendar.

The Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA)

The Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in mathematics and English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) are aligned to the Hawaii Common Core Standards, and designed to measure whether students are “on track” for readiness in college and/or career. These are mandatory assessments given to students in grades 3–8 and 11.
